MIT Engineering and Business Graduate Programs Excel in U.S. News 2025-26 Rankings

MIT Graduate Engineering Program

MIT’s graduate engineering program has once again been recognized as the top program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report, maintaining its prestigious No. 1 position since the rankings began in 1990.

MIT’s Overall Rankings and Business School Achievements

In addition, the MIT Sloan School of Management has also achieved remarkable recognition, securing the No. 5 position among the best graduate business programs, as announced on April 8.

Within the engineering disciplines, MIT excelled, achieving the top rank in six areas: aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering (tied with the University of California at Berkeley), electrical/electronic/communications engineering (tied with Stanford University and Berkeley), materials engineering, and mechanical engineering. Furthermore, MIT earned a commendable second place in nuclear engineering and third place in biomedical engineering/bioengineering.

Excellence in Engineering Disciplines

In the realm of MBA specialties, MIT distinguished itself by ranking first in four categories: information systems, production/operations, project management, and supply chain/logistics. It also achieved second place in business analytics and third place in entrepreneurship.

“The rankings published by U.S. News are determined through a combination of reputational surveys from academic deans and officials, alongside statistical metrics that evaluate the quality of faculty, research output, and student performance.”

Peer-Reviewed Rankings and Research Strength

Unlike the less frequent rankings for sciences, social sciences, and humanities—which rely solely on reputational surveys—this year’s peer-reviewed rankings placed MIT at the forefront in computer science. Additionally, its doctoral program in economics shared the top spot with prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Stanford, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago.
