MIT Engineering Faculty Celebrated for Prestigious Awards in Summer 2024

Throughout 2024, MIT School of Engineering faculty and researchers have been recognized with prestigious awards, celebrating their groundbreaking work across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines.
Notable Award Recipients
Polina Anikeeva, head of Materials Science and Engineering, was named a finalist for the Blavatnik National Awards, recognizing top young researchers in physical sciences and engineering. Gabriele Farina received an honorable mention for outstanding doctoral research in computer science and engineering.
James Fujimoto earned the 2024 Honda Prize for pioneering optical coherence tomography innovations. Jeehwan Kim won the Falling Walls Global Call in engineering and technology for semiconductor breakthroughs.
Recognitions in Computing and Optics
Samuel Madden received the Edgar F Codd Innovations Award for his lasting impact on database systems. Jelena Notaros was honored with the Optica CLEO Highlighted Talk Award for excellence in optics research and leadership.
Ashia Wilson was awarded Best Paper at ACM FAccT 2024 for addressing critical intersections of technology and societal impact.
Early Career Honors and Finalist Distinctions
Carlos Portela earned the Army Early Career Program Award, one of the highest honors for early-career scientists by the U.S. Army Research Office. Yogesh Surendranath was also a Blavatnik National Awards finalist in chemical sciences.
