MIT Maintains Top Global University Status in QS Rankings 2024-25

The QS World University Rankings have once again recognized MIT as the world’s leading university, marking the 13th consecutive year this prestigious institution has achieved this honor.
QS Ranking Overview
This accolade is part of the 2025 edition of rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds, a well-respected organization focusing on education and study abroad opportunities.
The QS rankings are determined by various criteria including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty citations, student-to-faculty ratio, and the diversity of both faculty and student populations.
MIT’s Top Subject Rankings
In addition to overall excellence, MIT secured the top spot in 11 subject areas in QS rankings, as revealed earlier this April.

- Computer Science and Information Systems
- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Linguistics
- Materials Science
- Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering

- Statistics and Operational Research
MIT also earned runner-up positions in several other key disciplines including Accounting and Finance, Architecture/Built Environment, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Economics and Econometrics.
Specialized Master’s Program Excellence
Furthermore, QS has unveiled rankings for specialized master’s programs in business, where MIT excelled with a first-place ranking in supply chain management and second in business analytics.
